ApacheCon Europe, the official conference of the Apache Software Foundation, attracted records numbers during its conference in April 2008.  The event reported 496 attendees which represents a 40% increase since last year’s meeting.  In addition, all training events were nearly sold out and high profile sponsors such as Google and Yahoo! were in attendance as well.  Conference promoters feel this surge in attendance parallels the growing interest of European businesses in open source software.

Lars Eilebrecht, Vice President of Conference Planning, declared the “success of this year’s ApacheCon Europe provides a clear signal that Open Source technology is now a significant component of the European IT landscape.”  The next ApacheCon conference will be held in November 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana of the United States.
